Fiesta Hispana – Volunteer Coordinator Ester. Leanne help Ester
As the volunteer forms get returned to each Spanish teacher, these teachers need
to forward them on to Ester who will record this info on a spread sheet, and then post it in the wiki.
Leanne's description of how volunteer chair gives the committees volunteers:
In 2011, the volunteer chair (Ester) gathered all the volunteer slips from the elementary Spanish teachers, contacted the high school volunteers, and placed all volunteers in their respective volunteer categories and time slots. She then supplied me with that list so I had their names and times for the craft area.
*Volunteer chair explained when they work and where they go.
*Shifts: 6:15 to 7:00 (set up, get explanations) and 7:00 to 7:45 (get explanations, clean up).

2. Contact the 4th/5th level Spanish Midland / Dow high school teachers to get student volunteers to help. *Suggest sending them hard copy info sheets to pass out to students, and for teachers to post.
-Get the emails of the high school kids helping so you can communicate directly with them and give them specifics as the night approaches. This also makes less work for the high school teachers so they aren’t acting as the middle man the whole time
-Need students to help at the dance, craft, food, entertainment, and Hispanic rooms.
-HS Students to help at the native tables (rooms). Help them set up (6:00) Use Spanish to explain the displays (idea: extra credit to research the country where they will be helping), help sign passports. -Send names on to Martha, so she can explain what they will be doing and put them in touch with the hispanic they'd be assigned to.
--Post student names and emails / phone numbers on the wiki so coordinators can contact them.
-need HS students at a welcome table for the hispanics and volunteers when they come in, and also where students can pick up a passport, get a map or look at one. Contact these HS students and explain what you need them to do -We had students sign up for shifts so they didn’t have to give up too much of their night (example: 6:15-7:00, 7:00-7:45) -Make sure they are clear on where to go and what to do -Explain we want them to use their Spanish as much as possible!
3. If need additional help, contact the Spanish departments at SVSU and Delta for volunteers
Create passport and at least 2 weeks (1 week?) before, send to Jolene Letts(? world language secretary?) to get copied. Request name tags at this point too
4. Touch base with all the station coordinators a week or so before the fiesta to make sure that they have the volunteers they need
5. Night of fiesta, –have a copy of the volunteer spread sheet for everyone to use if needed -have welcome table ready with map of where Hispanics will go to set up (coordinate with Hispanic chair) - passports, -map for students of where to go for what . -a volunteer table where the volunteers can check in and get their name tags -have name tags and markers
6. Keep list of key people want to write thank you’s to after the fiesta. Maybe when volunteers check in, they sign their name, address and what station they are helping. This list can be used for volunteer thank yous
